Hi I am Haf, a textile artist living and working in my studio in the beautiful seaside town of Penarth, South Wales.
I draw using paint, print, cloth and thread.
Having had 30 different homes and travelled widely, the places I have lived often provide the starting point for my textiles.
I also take commissions basing my work on places that offer significance to my clients. Recent locations that have inspired me include the vibrant Severn Grove in Pontcanna, Cardiff and Green Lanes in Harringay ladder, London.
I have a background in fashion and textiles and have learnt the traditional ways of working with fabric. Yet I see myself as a bit of a cloth rebel – I break the rules (and a few sewing machines along the way). Using found materials incorporated into my work, I like to create textured stitched pieces. I don’t do straight lines or neat hems. At the moment I use bright colours. I work better in a messy environment that mirrors the large number of ideas that I have running around my head.
I taught art at a progressive north London comprehensive school for over ten years. I have endless enthusiasm for passing on my skills to others and believe everyone can benefit from being creative.
